I have a Drake L-4B amplifier that has been refurbished with computer
grade capacitors. It is in very good condition and has not been used for
several years. I'm asking $750 plus UPS from Austin, TX if necessary. I
will not accept any lower offers at this time.
If you are interested, please email directly to:
dginbey@mail.tea.texas.gov (I don't check this newsgroup very often).

I am considering the purchase of an RF Concepts 2m/440 Amp
(2/70 or 2/70G). The G model has a built in preamp.
It will be used for my Yaesu FT-530 HT in the car and at home.
The car has a 1/4 wave 2m & 440 Mag Mount and there is a
Diamond X50A dual band on the roof at home (30-35 ft up).
o Does anyone have any experience with this amp?
o Must I feed it 5 watts, what if I give it 2 or 3?
o I read somewhere that due to intermod on HTs you shouldn't use
preamps, is this true?
TIA & 73s
Steve (waiting for his ticket impatiently :-( )

I have a HTX-202 and I like it. In fact, they are on sale now a Radio Shack.
I think they are selling them for 199.00. I like the unit, suggestion, just in
case, purchase the extended warranty.
Good Luck

There is a ton of RTTY equipment available for *cheap* in Oregon.
Demodulators, machines, military and commercial (and ham).
Pick uo, of course, as the stuff literally weighs a ton!

I recently purchased a Kenwood Hf rig TS430S. It has provisions for
frequency control (up and down) on the mike. It seem that a simple
A to D, D to A converter would enable the computor to control the
tranceiver's frequency.
Has anyone had experience with this? I would appreciate any info
reguarding this type of set up.

I was recently at the starting point for the purchase of gear. I picked up a
copy of CQ Magazine and started calling the mail order companies that had ads.
I've received a few very interesting catalogs and the customer support on the
telephone has been ver
y good as well.
Try:
Tucker Electronics - 800-527-4642 - Great Catalog.

Your suggestion is an excellent one, especially for a new ham. I once used a
setup similar to what you suggest, although I built an 11-element beam out of
old TV antenna parts and put it on a manually rotated mast. The who thing
probably cost about 20 bucks, and most of that was in the coax needed to get
the signal up to the antenna. With it, I was able to talk reliably to other
hams 30 to 50 miles away in the flatlands of Jacksonville, Florida, provided
they had an antenna with some gain and direction. I was also able to hit
repeaters in downtown Jacksonville (about 20 miles from my house at the time)
using a Yeasu FT-208 at low power.
The reason I suggest it's an especially good idea for a new ham is that there
are few things that are as easy to accomplish, and so rewarding, as building a
good antenna from readily-available parts. It's the sort of thing that can
instill a love of ham radio into new hams, and in the process build a hobby
that will last a lifetime.
Incidentally, building a 2M beam isn't hard, and needn't cost much, and it IS
fun.
